The Journey

We are just a family of believers trying our best to walk in the Spirit, make disciples and play our role in the body of Christ. As you explore this site, you'll find pieces of our story in our blog posts as well as in the music our family has created for the Lord.

On this page, we want to focus on something foundational: How we came out of Babylon. You may have noticed the "184" and the end of our web address and the 18:4" beneath the Kingdom Minded logo. That is a reference to Revelation 18:4 which states:

"And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues."

We want to briefly speak on what this scripture means to us and how it has impacted our walk with Christ. For us, hearing this message was a sobering moment that urgently and radically changed the course of our lives. However, completely coming out of the spiritual Babylonian system didn't occur all at once, it has been a process of transformation that is still taking place today.

Rebekah and I have been believers in Christ since childhood. Throughout our marriage, we were sincere believers that raised our children to know the Lord. When we look back over the years, we can see many defining moments when the Lord was trying to open our spiritual eyes to the wickedness and corruption of this world’s system. One of those defining moments was in November of 2019. While visiting family in Florida, we had a divine encounter with the Lord that revealed our true spiritual condition. Shortly after, we were baptized for a second time as a family. Since then, the Lord has delivered us from years of bondage and taught us what it actually means to Follow Christ.

Although we were sincere believers in Jesus, the Lord revealed to us that we were actually “Believers in “Babylon”. The reason we were “Believers in Babylon” is because many of the things we thought were okay were not taught to us by God but rather learned from the world around us. It started to become clear that when we applied God’s Word apart from the lens of modern Christian culture, we realized that much of what we considered to be “christian” was actually shaped by worldly practices and traditions of men that actually oppose God’s truth.

We already knew that Halloween was evil, but the Lord opened our eyes to other pagan rituals such as Christmas and Easter. I’ll never forget the moment Rebekah began to urgently purge our home of all the Easter decorations we had, along with anything else that we learned had symbolism linked to pagan god worship. I go into the reason why we no longer participate in Christmas and Easter, among other traditions of men in my blog post titled: “Come Out of her My People.” Needless to say, this journey has led us down a path of unlearning the ways of this world’s system and reexamining the truth of God’s word.

Walking in the Spirit

Being a believer in Christ means we have to follow His example by Walking in the Spirit. Romans 7:18 reminds us that nothing good dwells in our flesh, and any good we do comes from the Holy Spirit –  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.” So, it doesn’t matter if something ‘feels’ right if it doesn’t line up with the word of God. Our feelings can get us into a lot of trouble. Proverbs 14:12 says “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Although “we didn’t feel” as if we were doing anything wrong, the Holy Spirit revealed that we were engaging in practices learned from this world that were never apart of God’s specific instructions.

Jesus said His Kingdom is not of this world, so that means followers of Christ cannot knowingly engage in worldly practices and still be in full alignment with His Kingdom. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15 KV

Jesus tells us that we should pray for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. But in order for us to fully appreciate his will, we have to be walking by the Spirit. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 2:14 that “the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

We grew up understanding everything naturally, but the Bible teaches that we will not understand Him if we are operating in the natural, it has to be spiritual. Walking in the Spirit allows us to understand the things of the Spirit and live out His will on earth until He returns. This is a big one, because walking in the Spirit is clearly is important to God.

God’s Calling

As part of our journey out of Babylon, the Lord deepened our spiritual discernment and taught us what it really means to be true disciples of Jesus Christ.

“And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:7-8 KJV

The Holy Spirit also led us to prepare for a time coming when we will no longer be able to participate in this world’s economic system. For us that meant selling our home, coming out of debt and changing our lifestyle. It meant no longer living for this world but rather living to work for the Kingdom. I rearranged our financial priorities and Rebekah laid down her business which she had ran for over a decade and began homeschooling our youngest son. These decisions were not easy, but they were necessary to walk in God’s will for our lives.

We also learned how to have church as a family in our home, where we observe the true Biblical Sabbath on Saturdays, dedicating that day to reading scripture, taking communion as a family, and doing the Lord’s work.

So That’s Us

We have no special credentials, and we are not theologians, we’re just ordinary people doing our best to walk in the Spirit, make disciples, and call fellow believers out of this world’s system. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us.

Blessings in Christ,

Shaun

“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Colossians 2:6-8 KJV
